Thought it was either GRE or GMAT. But the situation calls for NEITHER !!!!!

As we all saw the world economy(especially US economy) succumb, it also brought down the employment opportunities along with it. It has raised a lots of speculation among the people who are planning their higher studies abroad. Below is the report of an expert analyst who is also a member of Student selection committee in US in one of the renowned Universities(He does not want to reveal his identity as his views might also be controversial ). Hope it helps in the shaping of your FUTURE

1) The rules of the game have changed - This morning's job report talks about more than 1.2 million jobs in 2008, 2.5 million jobs in 2009 and a total of 5.7 million jobs since the recession began on December 2007. Given all this, I will just use the well known adage and cautionary statement, "Past Performance (of a program) does not predict the future", especially in this market.

2) Focus on compensation - Every one of us wants to do well after having invested in anything including a graduate program. But, this focus on starting salary alone is frankly somewhat unappealing and disheartening (as a person of Indian origin). People should be asking questions about what companies and careers do you get into, and what the prospects of those careers are in over a 10 to 20 year period! To provide a quote that I often use, "It is not where you start (in terms of salary) that matters, it is where you end!".

3) Sense of entitlement - I get the feeling that most of you somehow have this mentality that says, "If I am investing xxxK, I deserve to get a job that pays yyyyK". There are thoughts about loans to be paid off etc. Just remember that everyone who goes to graduate business school (all the US students) has loans. During good times, maybe the programs and the employers can help fulfill this dream for you. However, for the next 2 -3 years you will be seeking a job in a foreign country, during tough economic conditions, where US students (maybe some who may not be as qualified as you) are also seeking jobs! So are all the people who got laid off and will continue to get laid off as the economy worsens. So PLEASE PLEASE, get out of this mentality that any program or you as a person can somehow overcome all these barriers.

Between the H1 quota problems, the economic downturn and any other factors that may emerge, I would encourage all of you to ask yourself the question, "WHY AM I REALLY GOING ABROAD?". Ask yourself the question, "DO I REALLY NEED TO GO THIS YEAR?". Ask yourself the question, "IF I HAVE TO END UP BACK IN INDIA, WILL I BE OK WITH THAT?". Hopefully some of the answers to these questions will help you get a better sense of your risk tolerance and you will make the smart decision.

It is NOT life as usual here in the United States. It is time for many of you to think about what you can achieve in your home country, instead of this desire to "flee" it.

You can throw stones at my arguments or criticize me as someone who is unnecessarily scaring you. You can choose to ignore my advice completely. But, I felt it my moral obligation to share these few words with you all!

Is cricket ok with the sledging ??? WOAH ! I am loving it !!! :D

So this is where cricket becomes so controversial and also so very interesting. Sledging, itself is a culture which many cricketing teams have taken up for their advantage and Sometimes it does show its wrath by backfiring.

It has been in cricket right from its birth and all the anecdotes prove it be very cute :P (of course not always). Some of those incidents involving Indian cricketers are Harbhajan-Symonds row, Yuvraj-Flintoff row which definitely brought the best out of Yuvraj to smash Broad for 6 sixers in 6 balls and many more

Here are few other conversations which i have collected from free sources for your delight ;)

During a 1989 Lords Test, Merv Hughes said to Robin Smith after he played and missed: "You can't f*****g bat." Smith replied to Hughes after he smacked him to the boundary: "Hey Merv, we make a fine pair. I can't f*****g bat and you can't f*****g bowl."

As Daryll Cullinan was on his way to the wicket, Shane Warne told him he had been waiting two years for another chance to humiliate him. "Looks like you spent it eating," Cullinan retorted.

After going past the outside edge with a couple of deliveries, Shaun Pollock told Ricky Ponting: "It's red, round and weighs about 5 ounces." Unfortunately for Pollock, the next ball was hammered out of the ground. Ponting told Pollock: "You know what it looks like, now go find it."

During a test match in the West Indies, Hughes didn't say a word to Viv Richards, but continued to stare at him after deliveries. Eventually Viv said, "This is my island, my culture. Don't you be staring at me. In my culture we just bowl." Merv didn't reply, but after he dismissed him he announced to the batsman: "In my culture we just say f**k off."

Ian Healy's legendary comment which was picked up by the Channel Nine microphones when Arjuna Ranatunga called for a runner on a particularly hot night during a one dayer in Sydney: "You don't get a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat c**t."

McGgrath: So is Lara good in bed, mate?
Sarwan: Why don't you ask your w*f*?

Fred Trueman bowling. The batsman edges and the ball goes to first slip, and right between Raman Subba Row's legs. Fred doesn't say a word. At the end of the over, Row ambles past Trueman and apologizes sheepishly. "I should've kept my legs together, Fred." The reply: "Not you, son. Your mother should've!"

When Warren Hegg made his debut for England against the Aussies at 32, Steve Waugh greeted him saying, "Look at you, 32 years old and only just making your debut. You should be embarrassed of yourself." Hegg was dismissed shortly after.

James Ormond had just come out to bat on an Ashes tour and was greeted by Mark Waugh. "Look who it is. Mate, what are you doing out here, there's no way you're good enough to play for England." Ormond replies: "Maybe not, but at least I'm the best player in my family."

Again, Mark Waugh standing at second slip when Adam Parore comes to the crease, playing and missing the first ball. Mark says, "Oh, I remember you from a couple years ago in Australia. You were sh*t then, you're f****g useless now."

Parore turns around and hits back: "Yeah, that's me and when I was there you were going out with that old, ugly sl*t and now I hear you've married her. You dumb c**t."

With IPL in full action, its inter-continental composure bringing players from different continents together, sledging will definitely reduce.

BUT Sledging on the lighter side has always been fun and I am loving it!!!!

Change in GMAT format ???? Phew, that was close !!!!

As I was going through the net stuff I picked up this stuff that GMAT is going to include 300 more questions. These questions will get included in all the 5 sections of GMAT while the main emphasis is on Data Sufficiency.

In the new format, in the sentence-correction, there is an increased emphasis on pronoun and modifier rules, while there is reduced focus on comparisons and idiom-related questions. Similarly, in the reading comprehension questions, the GMAC has created a balance between short and long passages. Two biology passages have been replaced wih one social science passage and one business-related passage.

In the critical reasoning section, 50 old questions have been replaced with 50 new ones. There has been a decrease of 19 questions in the problem solving section.

GMAT takers worst fear was a change in the GMAT format. But it was not. These are new questions which are getting included in the question database and as of now there is no official change in the GMAT format. But lot of speculations are going around that it will initiate a format change. But the official resources dont think so ;)

Vodafone Zoozoos of IPL2 break

This IPL season has been sizzling and entertaining with most of the teams performing on par with each other. With 6 teams neck-to-neck on the top of the point table, expectations are high among the fans.

To chill off this high tense atmosphere, Vodafone has come up with a new, cool and funny concept in the Ad world. Yes, its the ZOOZOOS. They are the talk of the town. These Zoozoos were thought to be animated creatures performing in the animated background. But they are not.

ZooZoo characters are actually played by real people. The real people are dressed in white outfits. The sets have been constructed by shadows created by spray painting and ZooZoo’s were conceptualized by the Ad agency O&M.

Election Drama !!!

Past 3 months have been like a real tug of war, expect for the fact that there are more than 2 contestants. But it has been so amusing( which it has always been :P ) with all the allegations, "shoethrow" gaming, verbal spats and "political match-fixing" accusations. Its been so much fun.

Price which they win over others is the "Indian Treasury". In return, we the people of this nation are going to pay for this. To make it more clear, let me present you the fact that the estimated election expense for this current election 09 in India is Rs.10,000 Crores. But in the last By-election held in TamilNadu, the expense for bribing the voters alone was estimated to be Rs.60 Crores. If we just formulate the ratio to the whole of our Country it comes to around Rs.162,000 Crores. Even the US election which happened this year, has accounted for just Rs.8000 Crores.

With the election results coming tomorrow, many people hope for a new dawn in Indian history ( atleast a small healthy change ). But the Bitter Question to ask ourself is , "Is the new government is going to make any big difference ?". I know the answer. So do you. So tomorrow is going to be a any other ordinary day is guess :(
